Do Yoruba have a King?

Oni Of Ife Adeyeye Ogunwusi

He lives lavishly, changing wives and women , with controversies of domestic cloud surrounding him he multiplied women within  month with an exotic life while the Yoruba people lives in squalor, You wonder if the Oni of Ife is really representing the Yoruba throne or himself.

When he became the Oni of Ife, There were hopes that he would maintain the sacred throne of the Yoruba people, but no sooner than his enthronement, the new Oni of Ife seemed totally detached from the Yoruba customs and tradition, he has desecrated the revered throne with his personal ambition and does not share  interest in that which affects the Yoruba people,  he's always going about hobnobbing with politicians and whoever he feels has money to the detriment of the great throne he occupies –

Oni

Many are of the opinion that The Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has always been a scam artist.  More of a “yahoo yahoo” and 419 king like the Oluwo of Iwo as many Obas in Yoruba land. Who have been reduced to nothing by Politician, because of their greed and love for money.

There has been talks about these Obas selling their own people to the Hausa/Fulani. People expressed surprises when character with dubious past was selected by the Yorubas to be the king of Ile Ife.

There were some allegations of him collecting money from people to bring them to England, Brazil and the United States.

Those who knew what the Yoruba stool stood for are of the opinion that the with the likes of the  current Oni of Ife Yoruba have bastardized the stool of Oduduwa in r choosing fraudsters to represent them and Yoruba Obas have  no more respect. In recent times. One of the scandals reported several dealings linked to the Oba

There are controversies around his past dealings, his business estate so called, Oba Ogunwusi and his companies are alleged to have swindled a lot of housing investors and buyers to the tune of hundreds of millions of naira, as the king appeared to be above the law.

In 2014 some documents from Metropole Interproject Limited came to light, introducing the sale of a “one unit of three-bedroom corner piece bungalow apartment at South Pointe II Estate” at Ajah, Lagos, for N17,967,000 million. She was instructed to pay 50 percent of the cost if she accepted the offer.  Retiring at the top cadre in the civil service after 30 years, she did not hesitate to invest her gratuity because the supposed estate was in a prime location: the building’s specifications and the estate’s facilities as stated in the contract looked top notch; the delivery date was less than a year away in August 2015.  Shortly after paying the initial deposit of N8,983,500 million to Metropole Interproject Limited, a receipt bearing the name of its parent company, Gran Imperio Group, was issued to Mrs Offiong. On a scheduled visit to the site, Gran Imperio Group took subscribers to South Pointe I, instead of South Pointe II.  “They told us that South Point II was not ready yet, so they took us to South Pointe I to show us what two would look like when it was ready,” said Mrs Offiong’s son, James (not real name), who went with his mother to the site. “There was a bit of confusion that day. We suspected that something was not right but we calmed down when they told us about another estate that would be completed before South Pointe II.” In a letter to subscribers in February 2015, Adiukwu Kechi, an official of the company, notified subscribers of the need to pay their next instalment. To get them to commit to completing their payments, although no land was shown to subscribers during the site visit, Kechi added: “We have been magnanimous to move you to a site that is beside South Pointe II and will be completed earlier than South Pointe II too, which is Golden Leaf Estate, and a final allocation will be issued too.”

There are unresolved shady ordeal that are carpeted by the Nigerian system which adulate so called “Big men” and treat crimes are peccadillos

The dignity of the Yoruba people is embellished with the fraudulent characters ascending leaders position, since they are not elected, they are responsible to no one. Many of these obas are being kidnapped which used to be a taboo in Yoruba land and are being killed as was the case in Ondo.

The Yoruba people maintain that Obas must be men of good character, they must be men whose reputation are without reproach

Unfortunately, the mixing of kingship and the act of bribery by politician introduced into the Yoruba culture by some criminal elements has made the current Obas in Yoruba land detestable, their reputation questionable and you can tell that they are really not representing the People But themselves
