Press Statement
Oodua Republic: Your mandate limited to APC, not Yorubaland, O'odua group replies Akeredolu
The Governor of Ondo State, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu has no mandate to speak on behalf Yoruba people all over the world, Apapo Oodua Koya, AOKOYA has said.
Reacting to a statement by Akeredolu that Oodua Republic is an impossible dream, AOKOYA in a statement signed by its official, Col Abimbola Sowunmi (rtd) said Akeredolu was elected by less that 300, 000 people, about 5 percent of the people of Ondo State mostly who did not vote out of their conviction but driven by money given to each voter.
This clearly shows that the so called elected politicians have no genuine authority over the people except the mandate stolen through bribery.
'With mandate lacking legitimacy, making a statement that contradicts the aspirations of majority of Yoruba people is understandable.
AOKOYA said the statement of the Ondo State Governor is opportunistic made to masturbate the ego of Fulani leaders who on the other hand are doing everything possible to capture Nigeria and impose their political desire on Nigerians.
AOKOYA said Akeredolu's statement ridicules his understanding of the realities in Yorubaland and has indicated how far he is from the people.
The pan Yoruba group said Akeredolu has no solution to the gruesome murder of a first class Yoruba Oba in his domain, the Olufon of Ifon, he has no solution to the murder of the daughter of Yoruba leader, Mrs Arakunrin and he has no solution to the armed occupation of Yoruba forests and the bombing of the Catholic Church in Owo. He has no solution to the encirclement of Yorubaland by armed terrorists supported by a section of the Nigerian state. He has no solution to the imminent war being planned against Yorubaland. It is better for him to keep quiet than to further distance himself from the aspirations of majority of Yoruba people."
AOKOYA said for the fact that Akeredolu is speaking against Yoruba Nation is an indication that the issue has become a major content in today's national discourse'
AOKOYA said Akeredolu is a beneficiary of the rotten system and no one expects him to overthrow a system that enriched him and his cronies at the expense of millions of poor and malnourished Yoruba people
It has never happened in history that the oppressors will support the overthrow of the system they benefit from but history has shown abundantly that the will of the people will triumph over decrees that have no legitimacy in the hearts of millions of oppressed and traumatized Yoruba people.
AOKOYA said Akeredolu is aware that he and his colleagues will lose all the illicit privileges they currently enjoy when Yoruba Nation comes.
He is aware that there will no longer be security vote when Oodua Republic emerges. Akeredolu has the right to defend the rogue country. The Yoruba masses also have the right to defend their belief in Oodua Republic.
The good thing is that Akeredolu and his tiny clique are in the minority"
The group said "The Yoruba public provide the house he lives, the cars he rides, the office he uses, the food he eats and the money he uses to cloth himself. He is not in a position to understand the coming whirlwind and the unstoppable rage of the people destined to push him and his likes off the stage very soon"
AOKOYA said the United Nations Charter on Human Rights and the African Charter on People's and Human Rights are clear on the rights of people's to self determination adding that as a lawyer, Akeredolu should understand international conventions which is driving self determination movements all over the world including Yoruba Nation adding that no force on earth can stop an idea whose time has come.
AOKOYA said that with extreme poverty, destruction and killings in the face of war brought to Yorubaland by terrorists backed by powerful Fulani lords the truth is that Nigeria has reached a breaking point, a junction of no return and that the only visible solution is self determination in line with universal principles.
Akeredolu has the right to migrate from Oodua Republic and live in Fulani Republic if he is so obsessed by the desire of Yoruba people to determine their political, economic and spiritual future.
